On behalf of the Pringle family, we send our thoughts and prayers out to the Metzgers. Swimming meets were always great with Harry's spirited inspiration. "You guys can do this!" He was always fun to be around.

We were so sad to hear of Harry's passing. "Bub" spent a lot of his leave time with our parents, Mary and Billy, in Liverpool during his time in the USAAF in the very early 50s. After his return to the US they lost touch - keeping in touch then was not so easy as now. But mum and dad had kept many of his letters and we got them back in touch in 1976. It was such a thrill for them to meet him again when Harry and Jeanne came to the UK some years later. Alan and I are glad too that we got to meet and spend time, not just with Harry, but the whole welcoming Metzger family. Through them, directly and indirectly, we have made many good friends in Washington. It's not so far now as it was in the 50s and it is so much easier for us. We could spend hours telling Harry stories - Alan and I had heard many from our dad long before we'd ever met him - and everyone has their own, but I'm sure they all end in laughter, as ours do. I have no doubt at all that Harry and my dad are somewhere now reminising about trams and warm English beer and Austin Healys. Love to Jeanne and Jan, and Jo and Meg and Maddy and their families.

There have been times in my life where words fail to convey the influence one has had on my life, and this is one. Harry always treated me with exuberant care, jocularity and a unique perspective on life as only Harry had. Cheers to you Harry and I know Heaven has greeted you as you did so many, with open arms and a loving heart.

Jeanne, Jan, Jo, Meg and Maddy,
We are so sorry to hear about Harry's passing. He was a larger than life character who Sue and I loved and respected very much. We got a great chuckle today when we were reflecting on our life with Harry. We still remember when I had Maddy in 5th grade and you all invited Sue and I to dinner. I don't think we had been married a year when Harry pinned us down during dinner and asked us when we planned to start having a family. "Sooner rather than later" was his message to us, along with his hope that we would be lucky enough to have daughters. I also remember the wonderful school bus trips with Harry as our driver. He was so much fun! He had me laughing just about all the time and the students were always thrilled when our trips were led by him. I will never forget him getting the school bus airborne as we traveled over the famous dip in the road, along the Stilly River, as we headed to Camp Silverton with Harry booming,
"Hold on! and Here We Go!"
I suppose I had better close this note, but I could go on and on. Harry was the greatest...he was lucky and skilled enough to have such a wonderful family as the Metzger clan. We wish we could be there for the celebration of his life, but we will be there with you in our thoughts.
Much love,
Pat and Sue Aaby

When Jeanne said his big ol' heart had given out, it struck me how that defined Harry. A big man with a big heart, generous and loving, supportive of his family. He never met a stranger and was expansive in all ways. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

To the Metzger family -
I knew Harry through my work in banking for many years in Everett. He was always a very pleasant person as a customer, and had a friendly hello if he met you on the street. My sincere condolences to you all.
