John "Jack" D. Baughn
Jack passed away early October 1, 2008, after a brief battle with leukemia. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his entire family.
He is survived by Doreen, his childhood sweetheart and wife of 52 years; his five children; two daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law; and seven grandchildren.
Jack's life was one of grand adventure and creativity. A native of the Pacific Northwest, the backcountry was his playground for hunting, fishing and camping that contributed greatly to his talent for story telling. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing and he nicknamed himself "Jack Salmon" to emphasize this passion. Jack could name all the flora and fauna of the area and was one of the true pioneers of the Pacific NW. He was also a talented artist and his gardens reflected his artistic talent. It was not uncommon for people to stop their cars and admire the beauty he created in his yard.
Jack was a devoted family man, sharing his love of animals, sports and adventure with his children John, Cheryl, Lisa, Craig and Stephanie. Growing up they shared many memorable years camping at Alta Lake and boating on Puget Sound. In more recent years the family has enjoyed spending time together at their beach property on Whidbey Island and in every instance our dogs were present.
Charismatic Jack was often the center of activity at social and family functions. He was organized and capable, a multi-talented handyman who could fix or build anything. The impact Jack had on the lives of his loved ones is immeasurable and those knew him will profoundly feel his absence.
A celebration of Jack's remarkable life will be held at 2 p.m., on October 18, 2008, at the Aqua Club in Kenmore, WA, for those who wish to attend.

I enjoyed working with Jack in my years in the planning department at GTE. As you all know, he was quite a good storyteller! He was very proud of his whole family and I'm sure you will miss him very much. One of the "good ones".

I remember the day Jack came to work with his hand all bandaged. He related how he caught a shark in the a.m., left it on deck all day, then picked it up to throw overboard when it "came alive" to bite him!! God bless you, Jack.
