On October 9th, 2023, Joseph "Joe" Frank Marty, a cherished resident of Arlington, WA, passed away at 72. He bravely faced complications arising from a brain hemorrhage over a month. Joe was born on July 8th, 1951, in Monroe, WA to Frank Joseph Marty and Phyllis May Marty (Spane).
As a child of just 10, Joe took up responsibilities on the family farm and began milking cows at nearby farms in Monroe, WA, earning the endearing moniker "Farmer Joe." His strong work ethic, evident from childhood and throughout his life, was an inspiration to many who knew him. Joe's kindness, generosity, and playful spirit were hallmarks of his personality. He held a special fondness for animals, particularly cows, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like making hay when the sun shines or playing light-hearted pranks on friends and family.
Joe was committed to his roles, whether as a dairy farmer, a laborer at Cuz Concrete, a school bus driver, or while working for Smokey Point Concrete. His colleagues were more like friends, and he never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation or lend a hand. In recent times, he discovered a passion for gardening, and harvest season would often find him generously sharing his garden's produce, especially squash, with loved ones.
Joe had a special fondness for the radio; if the radio proclaimed it, Joe believed it. This led to many lighthearted moments and chuckles amongst the family. It wasn't uncommon for Joe to arrive home with a newfangled gadget or an "essential" product he'd just heard about on the radio. He'd proudly showcase his latest purchase, declaring, "The radio said it's a game-changer!" Family members would often tease, "Got another 'life-saver' from the radio, did you, Joe?" But in truth, they admired his evergreen enthusiasm and zest for life. It was all in good fun, and Joe's unwavering trust in radio claims became one of the beloved quirks that made him so endearing to all.
Joe's unwavering love for his family was evident in the joy he derived from family gatherings and hearty Swiss meals. His dedication and love as a father were unmatched. He is survived by his children: Travis (Amanda) Marty, Erik Marty, Brent Marty, Jennifer Marty, and Renee Marty-Ortiz. He is also remembered by his sisters Regina (Ben) Johnson, Annie (Larry) Funk, Nancy (Don) McKenzie, and brother Tony Marty, along with 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A celebration of life for Joe will take place on January 20th, 2024, at the Monroe Swiss Hall at 1pm where meat dishes will be provided. The family is asking to bring a side dish if applicable. The family suggests planting pumpkins or squash next spring as a tribute to "Farmer Joe," sharing the harvest to honor his memory, instead of flowers.
