Larry Kirchgessner Obituary

June 13, 1929-November 29, 2015 When he shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night Larry Kirchgessner was born in Everett, Washington on June 13, 1929 to Robert and Lillie Kirchgessner. After 86 long and lively years, he died peacefully with family by his side on November 29, 2015 in Green Valley, Arizona. As a teen, Larry loved horses and won many a Snohomish County barrel race on Calico. He met his wife, Joan at Snohomish High School and married her on February 27, 1949. They moved to Arlington, Washington, where they raised four children: Michael, Deborah, Mark and Kim, and he ran the local Shell service station. In 1966, the family moved to Everett, where Larry opened a new business, Larry's ARCO, at 19th and Wetmore. He loved being his own boss, and he loved his customers (well, most of them). Larry captained three vessels, all named Jolare (26 ft., 32 ft., and 35 ft.) around Puget Sound and became Commodore of the Everett Yacht Club in 1972. He was also a member of the Elks Club. The lure of travel took Larry and Joan by RV across the western U.S., and eventually they went all over the world, to China, India, South America, Australia, Africa, Southeast Asia. In retirement they set anchor in the Arizona desert (Green Valley). Larry discovered a passion for arid gardening and produced many exquisite stained glass art pieces for family, friends and neighbors. He also found the time to be a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. He will be remembered fondly and forever for his tooth-gapped smile, his stories, his humor, and his kindness. Larry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan; his children, Mike (Susan), Deb (Kurt), and Kim (Rhonda); his grandsons, Christopher, Kyle, Jordan and Cooper; three great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Pixi. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kathleen; and his son, Mark. Many thanks to the staff at the Beehive and the hospice folks at Gerinet Healthcare for their compassionate and heartfelt care. Memorial donations may be made to the Community Food Bank of Green Valley or the American Cancer Society. At his request there were no services.

We will remember Larry as the neighbor that always had a smile on his face, always willing to help. And his dear Pixie that kept him going.

Dear Joan & family: We extend our deepest sympathy to you in this time of sorry. Larry was a very good neighbor of ours in Canoa Seca II. He was a fellow gardner and friend. We worked on garden club projects for several years and also the HOA. He really came throught to melp one day when my truck wouldn't start while is was a visitor at Silver Spring Assistant Living. My pickup wouldn't start go. It would start but wouldn't go. He came over, analyzed the problem, got under the truck and took a rock and pounded on the transmission. That was all it took and away I went. He was a great guy who I enjoyed very much. Jim & Jeanne Campbell

My mother (Helen Johnston) and I regularly traded with Larry at his Arco station in Everett, WA. Because he not only took care of our vehicles but also made service calls and always made time to give us a 'friendly hello' and share warm stories and a few good laughs...

All the best to you and your family in this time of grieving,
Jayne Johnston McDonald

Wonderful memories of all the great service we received from Larry at the gas station when kids were young. I always loved that location at 19th and Wetmore and when it came for sale the second time, I bought it. Our beautiful real estate office sits on Larry's corner now and I live above the store. After the building was done he called me to tell me he was proud of seeing what we built there. One of the truly good guys! Love to Joan and the family.

Sending prayers to the Kirchgessner family. I am an old friend of Debbie's, maybe you remember me from school. So remember your Dad at the gas station and was sad when you moved away from Arlington. So sorry for your loss.

Joan and family,
So sorry for your loss. So many memories of the days on the water. There were a lot of Yacht Club activities, cruises and golf at Hat Island. A truly great person and will be missed by all. Deke Olsen

I will always remember the fun trip we took on his boat to Port Townsend and the heater in the boat misbehaved and we all woke up with dirty faces. Hugs to all the family.
