Lester Jones Obituary

Lester Daws Jones

Lester Daws Jones died May 7, 2011 in West Linn, OR.
He was born October 9, 1925 in Everett, WA to Dorothy Chitty Jones and Lester Taylor Jones. He married Glenice Lyon in 1952. Les suffered with Alzheimer's disease for several years before his death.
He is survived by his wife; son, Larry; daughter-in-law, Betty; grandchildren, Nicolle Suzanne Jones and Scott Daws Jones, and Everett Paul Coe and Lydia Gayle Coe.
Les' daughter, Suzanne Jones Coe, predeceased him.
Upon graduating from Everett High School in 1943, he joined the U.S. Marines at age 17. He served until 1945. Les graduated from the University of Washington where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity with a bachelor's degree in zoology. Les had a lifetime career in the lumber business, first with Weyerhaeuser Lumber and then with Buckeye Pacific in Portland, OR. His employment took him and Glenice first to Dallas, TX, where Suzanne and Larry were born, then to Rockfold, IL. In 1975, the family moved to the Portland, OR area where Les joined Buckeye Pacific. Les and Glenice lived in West Linn.
Les' favorite activity was golfing and, for many years, he enjoyed the game at Oswego Lake Country Club. He was also a member of the Lake Oswego Kiwanins Club. Another favorite activity was dancing, and Les and Glenice served as presidents of The Lake Dance Club in 1985. While in Rockford, Les was a volunteer coach with a Pop Warner football team.
A memorial service was held May 15, 2011 at Christ Church Episcopal Parish in Lake Oswego, with interment in the church's memorial garden. The family suggests memorial gifts to the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp, 10725 SW Barbur Boulevard, Suite 50, Portland, OR 97219, Alzheimer's Association, 1650 NW Naito Parkway No. 190, Portland, OR 97209, or Christ Church Episcopal Parish, P.O. Box 447, Lake Oswego, OR, 97034.
