Patrick McFarland Obituary

Patrick R. McFarland of Minocqua, Wisconsin, died Saturday May 14, 2016, with his wife, Gerry by his side. He was 72 years old. Pat was born February 15, 1944, to the late Lloyd and Rawlins (Ovenell) McFarland in Snohomish, Washington. He graduated from Snohomish High School, attended Everett Community College, and graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969, being stationed in Germany. He met his wife Gerry Opgenorth in Corning, Arkansas where they both served as VISTA volunteers. They married July 1, 1972, in Corning, Arkansas. Pat enjoyed his "cold" beers at the Howling Dog Saloon, riding his "trike", music of the 50's (especially Rockabilly), and loved educating everyone around him about "whatever". He is survived by his wife Gerry of 43 years; sons, Lloyd "Mac" (Angie) McFarland of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Jesse (Briana) McFarland of Snohomish, Washington; four grandchildren: Lilian, Noah, Emma, and Matthew McFarland; two brothers: Mike (Kris) McFarland, and Randy (Carol) McFarland; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved basset hound, Teddy Roosevelt III. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; his pets, Teddy Roosevelt I and II, Filbert Wilbert, Barkley Beagle, Snert the Wonder Dog, and Arkansas Filbert. He loved his dogs. It was Pat's wish that there be no service. There will be a "Time for Remembering and Reminiscing" to be held at Pat's favorite watering hole, The Howling Dog Saloon, in Manitowish Waters on June 4, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Pat, you will be sorely missed.

Pat was one of my favorite people in high school. I have so many memories of sitting behind him in one class, Contemporary World Problems, I think it was. He was smart, funny, and had a sweet nature. May God bless and comfort his family as they deal with his loss.

Pat, I am sad to see you have past over to the other side. I can remember the last time I saw you in Snohomish. We talked about Wisconsin, where you had moved. We of the Forest Glade area getting fewer, My brothers Bill and Duane have also past over. May your family find peace in this time of you passing.
