Paul Stocker Obituary

March 16, 1924-August 17, 2014 Paul Menville Stocker, of Mill Creek, passed away at age 90 on August 17, 2014. Born on March 16, 1924 in Oregon City, Oregon to parents Myrtle Huckvale Stocker and Reverend Mortimer Stocker of the First Presbyterian Church of Everett. Survived by brother, Hal; daughter, Midori Stocker-Dillon; sons, Mark and Kurt; and domestic companion Kay Anderson. He also leaves grandchildren, Britta and Colin Dillon, Elton, Lisa, Alice, Dane and Paul Stocker; along with many, great grandchildren. Paul graduated from Ballard High School and attended University of Washington. He excelled in history, acting and boxing. Paul enlisted in the Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served as an aerial gunner from 1942 – 1945. He graduated from Willamette University School of Law in 1950. He was elected to the Washington State Legislature and served 8 years as 38th District Representative. In 1961 he was appointed to the Seattle World's Fair Commission. He produced shows for both Seattle and New York World's Fairs that were great successes. In 1964 Paul moved to Australia where he purchased, developed and sold oceanfront land. One development is now a town called Ocean Shores. Paul also spent time on Wuvulu Island in Papua New Guinea (PNG) where he started many businesses for the people. His 72' schooner and Sumalae Foundation helped bring medicine and doctors to the islands. The government of PNG commended him for his efforts. Paul spent his last 20 years representing the people of Bougainville Island against the Rio Tinto Mining Company. He enjoyed practicing law, especially fighting for the underdog. He received the WSBA's 50 Year Certificate in 2000. He enjoyed all kinds of music from classical to local Sour Kraut Band. Swimming and dancing were favorite pastimes. He was a lifetime member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and FRA Club 170. Paul Stocker was an adventurer, world traveler, storyteller and lover of life. A Memorial will be held at Everett's First Presbyterian Church on September 12, 2014 at 1 p.m.
