Shirley Gohr Obituary

Feb. 12, 1926 - Nov. 16, 2018 Shirley Fredrick Gohr, of Snohomish, WA, went to be with our Lord November 16, 2018 at the age of 92. He was born on February 12, 1926 in Sultan, WA. Shirley served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Baker 3rd Class on the USS LST-775 in the South Pacific (Philippine's). A few years after the war he met his bride, Alene Walters and they married January 9, 1952. Together they enjoyed the great outdoors camping and fishing in the Pacific Northwest. They also had three children, Connie, Ken and Joanna. Early in life, he worked in the timber industry, logging and working in sawmills. He worked a few years recapping tires for Goodyear until he went to work for the Washington DOT where he retired there in 1991. He was very mechanically inclined and if something was broke or he wanted to build something, he just did it. Throughout the years and while raising their family he made time to go out dancing with his wife, Alene. They did this all the way up to his 90th birthday until his health started to decline. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Legion for many years. After he retired from the DOT, he restored a 1951 Chevrolet HT and was a charter member of the North Cascades region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. He took up building very detailed, solid wood-scaled models of heavy equipment, cars and trucks. He also always enjoyed being with family and friends and if anyone needed help he was always there to help them even up to his 91st birthday. He is survived by his beloved wife, Alene; his brother, Robert Gohr; his sisters, Bonnie Gohr; Betty Smith and husband, Ward of Warroad, MN; his son, Ken Gohr and wife, Kati; his daughter, Joanna Cook and husband, Jamie; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Connie Mae Gohr; his brothers, Dennis Gohr, Ralph Gohr and Gerald Gohr. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at the Sultan Cemetery with reception to follow. Arrangements are under the care of Purdy and Kerr of Monroe, WA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Seattle Children's Hospital (uncompensated care).
