Steven Corey Obituary

Steven C. Corey (1950 - 2020)
Steve went home to be with the Lord on December 25th. He was born Sept 2, 1950 in Wisconsin, moving to Washington with his family at the age of 10 months. Growing up, he was active in Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Steve loved music and participated in both band and choir in high school. While at Washington State University he sang in the concert choir and a couple operas as well as Campus Crusade for Christ's New Generation music group. Following graduation from WSU Steve entered the Marine Corps and was able to sing in The Basic School choir while undergoing officer training. The TBS Choir performed at Marine Barracks Washington DC as well as many base functions.
Active-duty years were spent in the air wing as a student pilot and then air defense control officer. While working at Kaiser Aluminum, Steve joined the Spokane reserve artillery battery working his way up to Commanding Officer. He then transferred to the Seattle reserve training center where he was part of an inspection team evaluating unit readiness of US detachments and participated in joint exercises in South Korea. His last tour of duty was activation to Kuwait and Iraq in 2002-3. In 2004 Steve retired from the Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel. Over the years he enjoyed many MC Birthday Ball celebrations with Snohomish High School Junior ROTC cadets.
Steve worked in wood manufacturing as an engineer and plant manager at companies in both Spokane and Snohomish Counties. He also patented a cabinet design and developed a labelling machine for do-it-yourself wood products, in addition to crafting much of his home's furniture.
At the age of 12, Steve accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He served as church elder/deacon, song leader, and AWANA commander and teacher.
Steve is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of nearly 48 years Torchie and son Jonathan; brothers Bob and Dan (wife Kathy), twin sister Patsy (husband Clete), sister-in-law Tamara, Uncle Dick, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents Dean and Betty, sister-in-law Jane, and grand-niece Kiah.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Snohomish MCJROTC Parents Association (POB 871, Snohomish, WA 98291), Gideons International, or a charity of your choice.
Due to Covid restrictions, we hope to have a celebration of life sometime in the spring.
Arrangements entrusted to Bauer Funeral Home.
