Steven L. Erickson

Mar. 20, 1947-Aug. 16, 2008

Steven L. Erickson passed away suddenly, August 16, 2008, at age 61, while field training his dog in eastern Washington with life-long friend, Forrest Hunt.
Steve was born March 20, 1947 in Everett, WA to Charles and Ida Erickson. He lived in Everett until he graduated from the Everett High School honors program in 1965. He continued his education at University of Washington, graduating Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering in 1969. He completed his masters in Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University in 1972. Steve met Janet Means at UW whom he married on February 21, 1970.
His career spanned 34 years in three industries -- oil with Standard Oil, wood products with Weyerhaeuser and Boise Cascade, and food with Delmonte Foods. The last 15 years of his career he was Director of Environmental Affairs.
Steve was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was supportive of and interested in all their passions and talents. He loved sharing good times with old friends and welcomed new friends. He honored loyalty and loved hosting friends. Steve was a passionate Husky fan, continuing with his season tickets throughout the many moves. He loved hunting for the opportunity to enjoy being outside in beautiful country with good friends. During his short retirement, he became an avid golfer and was an integral part of developing the dog park in his neighborhood.
Steve is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Julie Keniry, of La Grande, OR; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Erickson and Jeff Gotts, of Brisbane, CA; son, Mark Erickson, of Eugene, OR; three grandchildren, Todd, Heather, and Rachael Keniry, of La Grande, OR; and his dog, Wyatt.

Steve was a good office mate and an even better friend. I miss playing golf with him, laughing and sharing the "occasional" beer. I have fond memories of the time I was able to spend with Steve.

To suddenly see Steve's obituary caught me by surprise. I grew up with him and Dennis Walden and we were "best" friends all the way through elementary school. I lived just across the street in the Delta Market, a small grocery store on the corner and I have many stories and memories of our childhood together. I'm so saddened by his death. My prayers to all his family.

We are so sorry to hear about Steve's passing. Sending our prayers and hugs to all. Steve and Dennis shared a great childhood together as next door neighbors and those memories will always be with Dennis.

Jan, Julie, Becky, and Mark: Steve was a great office mate, colleague, and most of all, friend. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to both work with him and be able to call him a friend. His life was much too short, but he left a legacy of memories and a wonderful family. I will miss him very much, and I hope that the memories and good times you shared will bring you comfort in the coming days.
