Steven Edward Matson

1954 - 2018

October 5, 1954-January 30, 2018 Steven Edward Matson, age 63, passed away January 30, 2018 following a brief battle with terminal cancer. His family was by his side. Steve was born in Bellingham October 5, 1954 to loving parents, Morrie and Rita Matson. He was the third of four sons. Later they moved to Sedro Woolley where the boys grew up. Steve always considered it the "Beaver Cleaver" childhood, although these brothers were much more of a handful. After high school Steve explored a number of different career opportunities. In 1986 he went to work for Bayliner Boat Mfg. where he stayed until their shut down in 2008. He held a number of different positions and always took great pride in his work. In 1991, he was one of 10 employees to receive a Bayliner US Marine individual sustained superior achievement award. He made many great friends. Steve will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. His quick wit always made everyone laugh. He enjoyed life and always preferred to think that "the glass was half full". He loved classic cars and Harleys. Riding with his brothers was one of his favorite things. He also loved toys and acquired quite the collection. He was the big kid that never grew up. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Rita and nephew, Eric. He leaves behind his loving wife, of 25 years, Stacy; children, Janel Kinney, Justin Jordan, and Ashley Lynum; grandchildren, Cameron, Makena, Ashlynn, and Lauren. He was especially proud of his new great grandson, Chase. He is also survived by his father, Morrie at the family home; brothers, Rick, Bruce, and Matt. As well as several nephews and their families. A celebration of his life will be held later this spring when the weather warms at Kayak Point near where he lived for many years. A gathering of family and friends with lots of stories, laughter, and memories was what he wanted. We will love him forever.
