Dear Karen, I hope you will accept my friend request. My husband Jim and I served in the Peace Corps with Tom in Serra da Canastra National Park, in Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1978. He was finishing his service living with a carpenter and his family in Sao Roque de Minas. Their youngest daughter, Elaine, is his goddaughter. I have remained in contact with them all these years, but we lost contact with Tom. Elaine asked me to help her find him. Yesterday was her birthday and I started an internet search for Tom. I was so sorry to see a notice saying Tom passed away in May. My condolences to you and all the family. It was that notice that allowed me to make the connection with you. If you will allow me to be your friend on Facebook I would like to connect your family with the Fregugia family in Brazil and especially Elaine to share your memories of Tom. Perhaps that would be a comfort to you all. Sincerely Lou Ann Dietz

My daughter Emily and I met Tom at the Marysville YMCA quite a few years ago. He was such a wonderful person, warm and friendly. He was the first person I thought of when our bathroom needed to be updated for my husband's health. He was so thoughtful and worked so hard to make it easy for my husband. When my husband passed away he (and youth from his church) was there right away. I'll never forget Tom and the caravan of cars driving up in front of my house to get our backyard ready for the services. As if that wasn't special enough, he even made a special urn for my husband's ashes. Karen, I am so sorry to hear of his passing for he will be greatly missed. Love to you Karen and the whole family!!!
