Michael G. Gauthier

Michael G. Gauthier, age 75, of Assonet, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at his home. He was the loving and devoted husband of fifty-three years to Cecilia (Sullivan) Gauthier. Michael was born in Waltham, the son of the late Norman and Betty (Jarnis) Gauthier. He grew up in Ashland before moving to Swansea where he graduated from Joseph Case High School class of 1963. Michael earned a bachelors degree from Bridgewater State University, his masters degree from Rhode Island College and his doctorate from Boston University in 1978. Mr. Gauthier taught English at Joseph Case High School for thirty-three years, serving as the department head for twenty-nine years. Michael had a passion for teaching, learning and regarded any class he taught as a course that he and his students took together. After retiring from Case, Michael became Curriculum and Volunteer Facilitator at New Bedford Public Schools, Division of Adult Education. Throughout his life. Michael formed lasting friendships, some of which reached back to high school. Quick witted, with an irrepressible sense of humor, Michael was able to find the comic in most situations. He enjoyed nothing more than bringing others to laughter. Survivors besides his wife are a sister: Patricia Hemingway and her husband Ian of Fort Myers, FL; a brother: James Gauthier and his wife Charlotte of Portland, ME. He was the loving father of the late Cynthia F. Gauthier. All Services for Mr. Gauthier are Private at the request of the family.
