Ann Savoca Obituary

Ann Delores Krahenbuhl Savoca

August 9, 1938 - August 8, 2025

Columbia, South Carolina - Ann Krahenbuhl Savoca passed away on August 8, 2025, just one day shy of her 87th birthday. A memorial service was held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, with a private interment at a later date. The family received friends from 5:00-7:00 PM at 26 Cotton Hope Lane, Columbia, SC, in the Kings Grant neighborhood.

Ann-affectionately known as "Annie" to her granddaughters, great-granddaughters, and many others-was born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of the late William and Margaret Krahenbuhl. She married her beloved husband, Carmen, on May 31, 1958, and together they were blessed with a daughter and a son. In 1962, the family moved to Rock Hill, SC, where they lived until their relocation to Columbia in 2022 to be closer to their children.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. Fiercely dedicated to her family, Annie delighted in celebrating the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Her two children, Donna and Bill, were the center of her world, and she cherished her relationships with them.

In her last years of life, Ann lived at Merrill Gardens in Columbia, where she was fortunate to form many friendships. She shared a particularly deep and loving bond with her primary caregiver, Artonya "T" Kiser, whose kindness and care will forever be remembered with gratitude.

Ann had a zest for life and was active in many Rock Hill organizations, including bridge clubs, garden club, lunch group, supper club, and book club. She enjoyed her surprise visits to her daughter and her daughter's friends at Salem College, where the jingle of her charm bracelet announced her arrival into the dormitory! She was known for her signature "swoop" hairstyle and her standing Friday beauty parlor appointments-indeed, only Ann could arrange to have her hair "coifed" just an hour before her unexpected passing!

Family traditions were important to Ann. She lovingly prepared Easter baskets for her children and grandchildren each year and maintained a long-standing tradition of gifting matching Christmas pajamas to the family. She loved to entertain in her Rock Hill home, often hosting slumber parties for her granddaughters' birthdays at the family's iconic indoor swimming pool.

Annie will be deeply missed, but her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace in the arms of her Lord and Savior and reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 63 years, Carmen.

Ann was also predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her children, Donna Savoca Strom and William "Bill" Savoca (Sharon); four granddaughters, Margaret Strom Williams (Matt), Catherine Savoca Caldwell (Dawes), Caroline Strom Holt (Preston), and Ann McKenna Savoca (fiancé Carter Heckle); her great-granddaughters, Emilia Grace Williams and Dorothy "Dottie" Williams; and her brother-in-law, John Savoca (Brenda).

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Merrill Gardens, McLeod Home Health Care, and Robertson Funeral and Cremation Service, as well as to Dr. Bradley Word, for their care and support to Ann and her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church (3200 Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29204), the Office of Institutional Advancement at Salem College (601 S. Church St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101, or online at salem.edu/give), or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Ann and Carmen were one of the kindest couples I knew as a young child and beyond! They moved in 2 doors down from us when I was 11 and with with many young ones in our great neighborhood we played constantly outside and they were ALWAYS so gracious and even made us feel they LIKED us! Ha. Both were Very easy to know and very special people who will be missed by many. In my later years I always enjoyed speaking with Carmen on the Country Club golf course where he was very good. And the few times I saw Ann later on, she looked THE SAME -- beautiful as ever with that warm, lovely big smile of course, -- she seemed to just love everyone!
