ROCK HILL - Mr. Carl Douglas Modeen, 87, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at his home.
Services will be private.
Born in Cheshire, Conn., Mr. Modeen was a son of the late Carl Victor Modeen and the late Gladys Hobro Modeen. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II where he served as a radar operator in the 1st Marine Airwing. He was also a member of the VFW, DAV and the St. Joseph’s Holy Name Society. As a life-long resident of Waterbury, Conn., he returned to Cheshire, Conn., in 1986 and moved to Rock Hill, S.C. in 2003. He resided there until his death following a brief illness.
He retired from Mattatuck Manufacturing after 32 years. Carl enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling but mostly looked forward to watching his beloved Yankees play baseball.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred Victor Modeen and Richard Modeen; and his sisters, Gladys Modeen Fayle, Dorothy Modeen McPhee, Beverly Modeen Bernanke and Doris Modeen.
Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Genevieve Dzimidas Modeen; his daughters, Victoria Modeen Hamel (Donald) of Rock Hill, Lynn Modeen Duff (Robert) of Brunswick, Ga., and Mary Ellen Modeen Matulunas (Paul) of Waterbury, Conn.; his brother, Henry Modeen (Connie) of Palm Bay, Fla.; his sisters, Mary Modeen Ricard Arsenault of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Lovisa Modeen Lafferty of Waterbury, Conn.; his five grandsons, Steven Hamel and Brian Hamel, both of Rock Hill, Douglas Getman of Longview, Wash., David Getman of Vero Beach, Fla., and Kevin Hamel of New York, N.Y.; his great-grandchildren, Lucas Getman, Cody Waits, Nolan, Maddie, Logan and Nathan Hamel; his close family friend, Carol Muckle Grant of Edgertown, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the home of his daughter, Victoria Hamel, 1736 Cavendale Drive, Rock Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Modeen’s name to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
