Charles Spencer

Charles E. Spencer ROCK HILL - Charles E. Spencer, 82, died August 28, 2014. He was the youngest sibling with three brothers and three sisters and lived in River Bend, NC until his father's death brought his mother and family to Rock Hill, SC. After graduating from Rock Hill High School he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Korean War. After the war he worked his way through the University of South Carolina and met and married his wife now of 56 years, Joye. He worked at Celanese and later with Garland Coal. He enjoyed the water and led a Sea Scout troop. He was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was instrumental in forming Westminster School, a printing ministry and a wheelchair ministry through the Joe Everett class at the church. His belief in Christ was evident through his life and words. He is survived by his wife and four children Eddie and Gwen Spencer, Claude and Cindy Spencer, Jay Spencer and Anne Spencer. He has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren preceded him in death, Matthew Spencer and Skyler Dejarnette. The closeness of the family would fill the house with his brothers and sisters, nephews, nieces, and their children. A service celebrating the life of Charles Spencer and the hope that is ours in Christ will be held Tuesday, September 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, led by his pastor and friend, Dr. Shelton Sanford. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the church or wheelchair or print ministry of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
