James Covington Obituary

James Covington, Jr.
September 17, 1957 - October 6, 2021
Rock Hill, South Carolina - So today, we lost one of the toughest S.O.B.'s (sorry Mom this was self-proclaimed) ever known to man. James Marvin Covington Jr. 64, (aka Jimmy, aka Jim, aka Papaw, aka Jimpy – and the list goes on) lost his battle with health issues on October 6, 2021. He was a private man in life and it was his decision not to share his diagnosis or his plight. We as a Family are sorry to everyone that missed a chance to say goodbye, but we tried our best to respect his wishes.
Jimmy was born to James M Covington Sr. and Martha Williams Covington on September 17, 1957. He is survived by his loyal and precious care giving wife, Vicki Sue Covington. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Williams Covington. He is survived by his father, James M Covington Sr. (Janet); his daughters, Summer Kristine Covington and Allison James Covington; his grandchildren, Derek Covington (more like a son) and Trey Covington; his brother, Johnny Covington (Susan), his sisters, Jill Covington Watts (Chris) and Julie Covington Templeton (Jade); his big nose dog, Z and his cats Abby and Hunter.
Jimmy was a character. Full of life. Full of fight. Full of jokes and pranks. Full of love for his Family, Friends, and Work Family. He was a formidable opponent on the wrestling mat (and in life) and raised his grandson to follow in his footsteps to win an Upper State Title. He was proud of his daughter Allison's State honors in chorus and loved to hear her sing. He loved Summer and was proud of her recent accomplishments professionally. He enjoyed the time he got to spend with Trey Lee, riding 4 wheelers and trying to turn him into a fisherman. He had a huge love of fishing and hunting that was passed on from his Dad. He would tell you he perfected it though. He grew the best vegetables in his garden and you would never taste a better tomato. He had a generous and giving spirit that he inherited from his Mother and he loved to give away his vegetables. He loved his house and property, there was no place he would have rather be. He had the heart and will of a Lion and he did not give up, not even in the end. In his professional life, he was a Heavy Equipment Operator and in a Supervisor position. He worked for Lanier Site Services and was proud to point out all the sites in Charlotte and surrounding areas he had worked on.
Jimmy did not want a funeral!!! We will be receiving friends and family at his house/property Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 5pm-8pm. Please bring a chair and a beverage of your choice. We will be telling "Jimmy stories" by the fire. If you don't have the address, reach out to one of the family members (someone will also have Jimmy's phone to answer by text if his number is the only number you have). The family will also receive friends during other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made directly to Vicki Sue Covington, c/o Family Trust Federal Credit Union, 225 W. White Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
