Mrs. Mary Ann (Fuller) Verostek, 68, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her home.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 902 Crawford Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29731, where she was a longtime member. Father Joe Pearce will officiate.
Born June 29, 1948 in Ashtabula, OH, Mary Ann Verostek was the oldest daughter of Mary (Rocco) Fuller of Conneaut, OH and the late Raymond Fuller.
She received her diploma from nurses training from St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, PA. Nearly 25 years later, she graduated with a BSN from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, SC. Although Mrs. Verostek worked in a variety of settings as a nurse, she found her vocation as a diabetes educator. In addition to standard care, she sought creative ways to nudge her patients into healthful living. She ran a diabetes support group and brought in speakers to keep patients engaged. She retired from Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC in June 2014.
Mrs. Verostek lived a life filled with service. She was a consummate caretaker and loved and served her family, her friends, her community, her church, and her patients. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a source of strength and encouragement for those around her. "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." 1 Peter 4:10.
Mary Ann loved picking blueberries, making strawberry jam, traveling to see her children, and watching her grandchildren run cross country races, play tennis, perform in the school band, and dance in recitals.
Mary Ann developed a passion for walking and running. She regularly walked at Cherry Park and the River Walk in Rock Hill and in the Stuy Town Oval in New York City. She annually ran the Cooper River Bridge Run, Turkey Trot, and Reindeer Romp. In 2011 and 2012, Mary Ann ran the Disney Half-Marathon. Even in the last year when her health started to fail, she walked every day.
Mary Ann spent the last several months in New York City, receiving treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering. She returned home to Rock Hill in early October.
She will certainly be remembered for her warm and friendly smile. That combined with the sound of her laughter brought joy to so many.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Andrew Robert Verostek; her son, Robert Verostek (Allison) of Greer, SC; her daughters, Catherine Robitaille (John) of Moore, SC, Elizabeth Verostek (Stan Mintchev) of New York, NY, and Theresa Hunter (Colt) of Murrells Inlet, SC; her grandchildren, Zoe and Kyra Verostek and Jean-Luc and Jane Robitaille; her brothers and sisters, David (Lynda) Fuller of Canfield, OH, Paul (Jennie) Fuller of Ashtabula, OH, Mark (Sharyn) Fuller of Canton, OH, Rosemary Fuller (Yvonne Fayard) of Youngstown, OH, Peter (Cheryl) Fuller of Chagrin, OH, John (Lisa) Fuller of Grover, MO, Danny Fuller of Ashtabula, OH, Matthew (Jeanette) Fuller of Mentor, OH, Jeanne (Randy) Blome of Dayton, OR, Amy (Sonny) Hamizadeh of Maumee, OH.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30pm on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC.
In lieu of flowers and keeping with her wishes, the family requests memorials be made in Mrs. Verostek's name to The Oratory, 434 Charlotte Ave, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
