FORT MILL - Surrounded by his family and friends, Mr. Terry McAteer went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2009, after a hard-fought and inspirational battle with cancer, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Independent Bible Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jason Coley and Tim Blue officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Fort Mill, Mr. McAteer was a son of Mills Leon McAteer and the late Gladys Bass McAteer. He started his Duke Energy career in 1976 with the Utilities Department at Catawba Nuclear Station. He later took a position with the materials department of CMD which later transitioned into the Customer Support/Nuclear Supply Chain position he held at the time of his passing. All of his 33 years were at Catawba so he was well-known and very well-respected. He managed to work until mid June 2009 even though his health had declined rapidly. His dedication to his work was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Terry was a dedicated husband, father, Christian, teammate and friend. He contributed more than 20 years of faithful service at his church as a children's church pastor, Sunday School superintendant, Sunday School teacher, and Bus Ministry captain and leader. He was also an adamant Fort Mill Yellow Jackets supporter, as well as a huge South Carolina Gamecock fan as was evidenced in his work desk décor. He possessed a quick and unique sense of humor which endeared him to so many people. But his dedication to faith and family was always first in every conversation, whether work-related or not.
Terry leaves behind his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Ellis McAteer; two sons, Matt and Reid McAteer of Fort Mill; one brother, Mike McAteer of Fort Mill and one sister, Donna Chavero of Rock Hill. He also leaves behind many, many friends who will miss him terribly.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Independent Bible Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Independent Bible Baptist Church, 17025 Lancaster Highway, Charlotte, NC 28277 or Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
Condolences may be left for the family at www.fortmillfuneralhome.com.

Gail and I thoughts and Prayers are with you Becky,Matt and Reid.It was an Honor and priviledge to have known such a wonderful man. Over the past weeks when I would pray for Terry that God would give Him the Grace to bear His cross. My mind would go back some 20 years ago, when we taught sunday school together.Terry was a man of strong faith and Grace. God smiled on my life because He introduced me to Terry Mcateer. I will never forget his smile when He look me in the eye and He would say,How are you doing Brother? One day when I see Bro.Terry again and He LOOKS ME IN THE EYE, Iknow he will say,How are doing Brother? I will say to Bro. Terry.Iam fine now Terry because Now We BE ABLE TO SEE OUR SAVIOR Face to Face the one we shared the good news about in that sunday school class together so many years ago! Ms. Becky and the boys, what a wonderful testimony Terry has left as was evident at the visitation this evening. He has touch so many lives at the workplace and, of course at his church, where I know many boys and girls were saved through his ministry there. I was very blessed to have know Bro. Terry. May God's Grace continue to be present as I saw it this evening. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you.
