Thelma Hubbard

1920 - 2018

Thelma Dorman Hubbard FORT MILL, SC Thelma Hubbard, 98, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 27, 2018, at her home under hospice care and her husband by her side. Born in Washington D.C. in 1920, the daughter of Marshall and Ina Dorman, she was the sixth of ten children. Thelma graduated Eastern High School in D.C. before attending Strayer Business School. In 1940 she married Ted Hoover. They adopted a two-year old son Ted Jr. who was the delight of her life. Suddenly widowed in 1956, her son, then eight was her reason for living. In 1964 she married Kent Hubbard and became stepmother to his three sons, and Kent legally adopted Ted. In 1971, Ted died in a tragic accident. In 1940 Thelma was employed by C & P Telephone Co. and served in several supervisory positions. She retired in 1978 to care for her mother. Thelma is survived by her husband Kent, sister, Barbara Lentz, and husband, Richard, of Virginia Beach, VA; stepsons Gary of Burbank, CA and wife Bette Ann; David of Fort Mill, SC; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Thelma and husband Kent served in many ministry opportunities over the years, most recently volunteering in their home church, Manchester Creek Community Church in Rock Hill, and at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC. Thelma's more than ten years of service at the Library ended at the close of 2017 due to her illness. Thelma was the oldest volunteer at the Library and was thus a role model to many. Over the years, Thelma ministered and mentored many individuals and family members encouraging their walk with her Lord Jesus Christ. She did so within weeks of her home going, inspiring many with her testimony of looking forward to being with Jesus. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Manchester Creek Community Church, 1689 Springsteen Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730 with family visitation following.
