Victor Barbieri Obituary

Victor John BarbieriFORT MILL - Victor John Barbieri, 65, died peacefully at CMC-Pineville, May 6, 2014, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New York City, Sept. 21, 1948, to Victor Alphonso Barbieri and Angela Barbieri Comotto. He graduated from Tulane University and Loyola School of Law where he played varsity soccer and lacrosse. He practiced law in Denver, Colo., for 25 years specializing in juvenile, child custody and family law. Long a strong supporter of his wife's and sons' athletic activities, he was actively involved in lacrosse, coaching club teams and teaching the sport he loved. He expressed his insatiable curiosity and his abundant love of life through wide reading, Italian cooking, European travel, wilderness river rafting and devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Nims Barbieri and two sons, William Kenneth Barbieri of Fort Mill and Andrew Nims Barbieri of Columbia. Also, surviving are his mother, Angela Barbieri Comotto of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and siblings, Christine Graziano of Morris Plains, N.J., Dr. Louise Barbieri (Deb) of Morris Town, N.J., Nancy Barbieri Maruggi (Vinnie) of Chester, Md., Celeste Kelly (Mike) of Monkton, Md., and David Barbieri of Deerfield Beach, Fla. Victor and I worked together at York Place(as school district employees) from the time he came until I retired in 2007. The first thing I told him was "you can't save them all,but do the best you can for them while they are here" Later, I substitued there and always talked to Victor. If the day had been hard, he would say to me " a wise old lady once told me...."I will miss him.

I had the honor of sitting in on a few of Mr. Barbieri's classes at York Place. The more I listened to him teach the more I realized that he was a wonderful and strong teacher who looked beyond the children's disabilities and encouraged them to reach their full potential. Mr. Barbieri will be greatly missed!

Mr.Victor John Barbieri was my teacher at YCHS. He taught me how to live my life the right way. If it weren't for him I wouldn't be where I am today. I wouldn't be the same type of person that am. And we had bad times but. I am very happy to say that he did a lot for me and others in this world. R.I.P Victor John Barbieri
