Barbara Karstens, 85, of St. Joseph passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 613 Court St., in St. Joseph with Pastor Michael Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2025, at Starks and Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Barbara was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Hartford, Mich., to Mark and Theresa (Jackson) Alexis. She graduated from Eau Claire High School and served as senior class secretary in 1957. She married Ronald Karstens in 1960. Barbara worked for and retired from Whirlpool Corp. as an accountant and was the Old Timers Banquet chairperson in 1985. Barbara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, where she was the secretary for the Ladies Aid for many years as well as a member of the Stephen Ministries. Barbara enjoyed many activities such as sewing, knitting, traveling, baking and reading.
Barbara is survived by her sister Sue Wood; nieces Kathryn Powers and Brenda Lyons; nephew Tom Wood Jr.; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Margaret Brunell and brother Phillip Alexis.
