A man of many interests, Ernie was passionate about cars, motorcycles and anything mechanical. He was an avid sports fan, particularly of the University of Michigan and enjoyed dancing, eating hamburgers and spending time with his friends. Above all, his passion for music stood out, often being the highlight of his leisure time.

He was predeceased by his parents: Alvin McCarver Sr., and Edna McCarver Ferra; his sisters: Kay Van Engen and Roberta Sue Smith Kappel and a nephew, Michael McCarver.
