William E. "Gene" LeCount, 76, of Stevensville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph.
Gene was born on July 28, 1946, to Hubert and Mary Lou (Shive) LeCount in Goshen, Ind.
He graduated from Goshen High School.
In 1967, Gene was drafted into the U.S. Army being honorably discharged in 1968.
On Sept. 27, 1969, Gene married the love of his life, Frances Iwinski, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chicago. Gene was a hard worker and worked different positions for railroad car manufacturers, retiring as a supervisor for Barber Brake Beam.
Gene was a volunteer for the VA clinic in Benton Harbor. He enjoyed putting together model railroads, reading and tinkering around his house. He was known for being kind and having a good heart.
Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances LeCount; son, David (Jessica) LeCount of Portage, Mich.; siblings: Pamela Kershner of Elkhart, Ind., and Michael LeCount of Elkhart; and stepsiblings: Judy (Les) Johnson of Illinois and John Kindig of Florida.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents: Hubert and Mary Lou LeCount; and stepmother, Ruth LeCount.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society – Southwestern Michigan Yeager Family Pet Shelter, 5400 S. Niles Road, St. Joseph, MI 49085.

I was a classmate of Gene's at Goshen High School. He always had a quick smile and a great sense of humor.
Our classmates will always be "Redskins"
