Ethel Thomas "Mike" Murray died Monday, January 29, 2018 at Hillside Nursing Home in Wake Forest, NC at the age of 90.
Mrs. Murray is survived her children, Gloria M. Foster (Les) of Wake Forest, NC and Sherri M. Seiber (Geoff) of Fort Worth, TX; her grandchildren, Danna F. Blalock (Michael), Lisa F. Barber (Shawn) and Timothy A. Seiber; and her great-grandchildren, Evan M. Blalock, Leslie E. Blalock, Kaley L. Barber and Tyler Daniel Barber.
Mrs. Murray was born on July 14, 1927 to Arch and Ethel Thomas. She was raised in Durham and met and married the love of her life, Dan Murray, at the age of 17. Dan Murray had a lengthy career at Lowe's Inc. in the 60's and 70's and due to his success and their popularity, "Mike" was known as the "First Lady of Lowe's". They were among the first ever to fly on the Concorde to Paris in 1972 and enjoyed several other trips with the Lowe's team.
Mrs. Murray was a long time member of the Gospel Center in Durham, and then joined Northgate Chapel in the early 80's. There, she was a Sunday School and AWANA teacher for years. In the community, she gave back by joining the Women's Auxiliary at Durham Regional Hospital in the 70's. She held several positions and greatly enjoyed being a buyer for the hospital gift shop.
Mrs. Murray was a natural caregiver. She was always there for any family member needing support. She was the last survivor among her siblings, Ruth Hogan, Ivey Whitten and Albert Thomas all of whom were precious to her.
Mom, Ahyer, Meme, "Aunt Mike" was passionate about family. She loved having the entire Thomas clan over for holiday meals. She never passed up an opportunity to sit with grandchildren and frequently traveled to Florida or Texas to see her youngest grandson Tim.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. A private graveside service is planned for Wednesday.

Ruth Murray

Prayers for the family. My mom, Ruth Murray (no relation), was one of Ethel's closet friends. They were joined at the hip for shopping/lunch outings and all church activities. I remember hearing their laughter every time they spoke or were together. Blessings.
