I had the privilege and pleasure of teaching George and knowing his entire family: father, mother, and brother. When I moved to Durham from Florida in the 1980s, I even rented a house from the family. I taught George when he was in the seventh grade. He was an avid reader and quiet presence in the classroom. In fact, George loved reading so much that at times I would have to pry him away from his book! George was a deep thinker on a multitude of subjects. He also loved to travel, a trait, no doubt, that he picked up from his family's lineage and from his reading. I was chagrined to learn of his death. It seems that all the good ones are taken from us too soon! -- Peter McWilliams, Durham Academy (retired)

My heart was saddened when I seen this obituary. I have thought of you and your family so many times over the years. I know nothing I can say or do at this time will take away your pain, but I just wanted to let you know that you'll are in my prayers. May his soul rest in eternal peace..
