Grace Honeycutt Smyre

June 6, 1939 - September 17, 2024

Raleigh, North Carolina - Grace Honeycutt Smyre, 85, of Raleigh, NC passed away in Raleigh on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024. She was born on June 6, 1939 in Johnston County, NC.

Grace worked for over 35 years at Nationwide Insurance. She was an avid animal lover. Grace was known for never leaving a stray pet on the street. Grace even domesticated a bluejay and named it Bee Bee. She trained Bee Bee so well it even learned to say its name. Bee Bee was a loving pet for over 13 years.

She is survived by her husband Glenn Smyre; son Hugh Craig Prevatte, and daughter Danelle Mills; stepdaughters Jalenn Smyre Layton, Natalie Smyre-Davis and her husband Scott Davis; grandchildren Melissa Favre and her husband Jacob Favre, Crystal Prevatte, and Amy Prevatte; step-grandchildren Madison Byrd and Madalyn and her husband Wally Batts, Darren and Callie Byrd; great grandson Brayden Pearce; step great granddaughters Layton and Sawyer Jo Batts. Grace is preceded in death by her parents Buford and Rebecca Honeycutt; her first husband Hugh Prevatte; brothers BJ Honeycutt and Ronnie Honeycutt; and sister Judy Stancil, and many special friends.

The family will have a private graveside service at a later date at Montlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wake County SPCA, or your local animal shelter.
