Gordon MacPhail Obituary

MacPhail, Gordon
Mar. 27, 1930 - Feb. 8, 2015
Gordon was born in Brockton, Mass and earned his Bachelors Degree in architecture at Wentworth College, Boston, Massachusetts.
He met his wife in England while serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. His career path began at Vermont Marble Company and eventually evolved into ownership of TH Winston Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he raised a family of six children with his wife Gail, (happily married for 60+ years). Family vacations beckoned a career move, in 1978 with family in tow he successfully initiated Standard Tile Company and TH Winston Company in Sarasota. Both of these company's continue to thrive today. His love for sailing, basketball and bike riding prevailed throughout the years along with his interest in all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and his dachshund, Cocoa.
His kind and generous spirit will continue on through all of us and we will be forever grateful to have shared our lives with him. Gordon is survived by his wife Gail, three daughters, two daughters in law, two sons, three sons in law, 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren (and one on the way), his sister Joyce and brother Stanley.

Dad, I think about you everyday. You were such a shining example of a truly honorable man, father, grandfather and husband to Mom. You taught your family how to work hard and to do the right thing. You had a lot more living to do! We miss you and we will love you forever. Love always, Cheryl Lynne

Gordon has joined your daughter and they continue to love and care for you, Gail, and your family here. You, two, have been an inspiration since we were neighbors in Cincinnati and your girls babysat for our children. I treasure our last visit in New Hampshire and the picture of you and Gordon, me and Ben. Great memories. With sympathy and prayers. Mary Lynne Rapien

Poppa was an undeniably beautiful presence while he walked this earth and I will be forever grateful for his kind bits of wisdom and cunning sense of humor, not to mention his extreme generosity. 'Till we're all together again I will miss him so and I feel so blessed to be surrounded by the many family members he's left behind to be together.

My grandfather Gordon was the most gracious, loving, and one-of-a-kind example of an honest and beautiful human being. I'm so grateful to have spent so many years learning from him, being inspired by his life and life choices, and I'm humbled to know his presence will live on in each of us. Love you Poppa.

Gordon would always greet friends with a nice smile and a welcoming hello, it would not be hard to list his qualities and virtues not to mention the unselfishness he offered toward the family he loved at the end of his life. I simply enjoyed his friendship, and will miss it. With much love to Gail and his family Ted
