Marie A. Smith of Sarasota, Florida died on Monday, April 8, 2013.
Marie was born in Newark, New Jersey to Mary Ellen (O'Donell) and Joseph P. Hagen.
She is preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 55 years and love of her life.
Survivors include her daughters and spouses: Jacqueline and Jeff Blanchard, Charlene and John Moeckel: her brothers and spouses Charles and Pat Hagen, J. Patrick and Ann Hagen: and many cousins and nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents (Mary Ellen and Joe), her brother Joseph Hagen and her sisters Florence Malloy and Mildred Howe.
Marie and Jack married December 29th, 1945 shortly after World War II. They soon moved to Springfield, New Jersey to begin their lives together. In addition to being a devoted mother to two daughters, Marie entered the field of politics running for Tax Collector. She won the first election, ran unopposed after that, and continued in that position until her retirement in 1983.
When she and Jack moved to Sarasota in 1983, they quickly made many friends and continued their long-term friendships in New Jersey.
She is best known for being a loving wife and mother and a fiercely loyal sister and friend. The memory of her will forever be with all of those who have loved her.
Funeral services will be private for the family.
