Nancy Allen Obituary

Allen, Nancy L.
Jun. 3, 1935 - May 4, 2012
Nancy L. Allen, 76, of Sarasota, FL, died on May 4, 2012.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday May 26 at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 8490 McIntosh Road on Palmer Ranch in Sarasota.
Family Survivors include children, John Allen and Erin Blosser of Sarasota, Jim (Shalimar) Allen of Tampa, FL, Judy (Tom) Allen of Seattle, Washington, five grandchildren, brothers John (Diane) States of Ft. Myers, Florida and Duane (Jean) States of Roseville, MN two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orville, her daughters Susan Lee and Linda Lee, her parents, and brother Dick.
Nancy was born in Rippey, Iowa on June 3, 1935 and grew up in Traer, Iowa. After graduating valedictorian of her 1953 class at Traer High School, she went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in 1958, where she majored in home economics. Nancy wed her high school sweetheart, Orville L Allen, with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage. The couple lived in Des Moines, IA where they started their family. Nancy taught home economics and sewing. In 1977 Nancy and Orv relocated to Sarasota, Florida where together they founded Allen Real Estate Services, Inc. For over 30 years Nancy delighted in promoting the Sarasota lifestyle including golf, the arts and waterfront living. She took great pride and personal interest in helping families buy and sell real estate. Nancy always felt the home was a cornerstone of family and should be warm and inviting.
For Nancy, family was always first. She had an unrelenting love and support for her children and grandchildren. She mentored, encouraged and fostered kindness and compassion but also nurtured a competitive fire for academics, music and all sports, especially golf.
Nancy truly loved her PEO and Kappa Delta Sorority sisters. Nancy was active in Covenant Life Presbyterian Church, where she participated in Bible study and the quilting ministry.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of her amazing friends whose support in calls, cards and visits truly made a difference in her two year battle with cancer. She now is at peace in her eternal home.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to PEO - Educational Loan Fund, 3700 Grand Ave. Des Moines, IA 50312 in memory of Nancy Allen, Chapter BM, Florida.

To John and the family. I was so saddened to hear that Nancy lost her battle with cancer. Dutch and I have worked with her in Real Estate and have a few fond memories of her and will remember her always. We originally got to know her when we bought one of her listings. Our deepest sympathy to you all. Tricia Richardson

Nancy Allen was a very special, very warm person and a wonderful, kind and thoughtful neighbour. She was the first person to welcome us to Calle Facil a few years ago and to express a genuine interest in our whole family. We cannot attend the Memorial Service because we have returned to Canada for the summer, but we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to her whole family. And in the Orthodox tradition, we wish Nancy "eternal peace and everlasting memory."
