McCarthy, Patrick
Michael
Apr. 19, 1950 - Feb. 15, 2013
Patrick Michael McCarthy, age 62, of Venice, FL., previously from Lombard, IL, passed away on February 15, 2013 after a 2 1/2 year battle with lung cancer. Pat always said his "last 2 years were the best 2 years of his life". His positive attitude & wonderful sense of humor was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He's survived by his parents, Therese and Donald McCarthy, his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara. He's also survived by his brother & best friend, Terry (Rosemary), sister, Donna Neiler, brother-in-law Bill (Sandra) Schwartz and sister-in-law Tina Marie Schwartz, in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Patrick was a sergeant in the Army from 1969 to 1971 serving in Viet Nam. Patrick retired in 2000 with over 27 yrs. at AT&T in Villa Park, IL. He enjoyed golfing at Myakka Pines. He spent the last few years, when he wasn't able to golf anymore, playing poker at the One Eyed Jack's in Sarasota spending many hours searching for that high hand. Patrick wanted to thank Dr. Orman, Dr. Swor and all their caring nurses and staff. A special thanks to Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Angels on Earth, especially to his nurse angel, Tammy. A special thanks for the friendship and support of many friends through the years and of his caring neighbors at Westchester Gardens. And a special thank you to the VA for recognizing him as a disabled veteran. His family was very special to him and appreciated all of their support. A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, February 23rd, at the Plantation, Westchester Gardens Condo Association Club House at 11:00 AM. Services will be at a later date in Villa Park, IL. In place of flowers, contributions can be made to Tidewell Hospice, Philanthropy Department, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 or www.tidewell.org , VA, St. Jude or PARC.
