R.E. Fieberts Obituary
Fieberts, R.E. Bob
Dec 22, 1923 - Dec 10, 2020
R E "Bob" Fieberts died December 10, 2020 in Sarasota, FL at the age of 96.
Born December 22, 1923 in Lockport, New York to Harry William Fieberts and LaVerne Marie Klokow Fieberts, Bob was an only child. He & his mother lived with her parents in Chicago after his parents were divorced when he was 13 years old. In his senior year of high school, they all moved 50 miles south to Grant Park.
In 1943, Bob enlisted in the Navy and was first stationed in Algiers, Tunisia, Africa. He was later stationed in the Pacific aboard a wooden tugboat near Okinawa, Japan. On October 9th, one month after the war ended, typhoon "Louise" hit Buckner Bay where Bob found himself and others violently tossed about as ships crashed against each other. His wooden tugboat landed on a coral reef, allowing the crew members to safely escape to land - hand over hand by rope. Bob was honorably discharged on January 1, 1946 and remained a proud veteran of his Naval service.
Shortly after returning to Grant Park, Bob met his sweetheart, Lois Esson, and they were married on July 1, 1947. Bob and Lois had many fabulous adventures during their 73 years of marriage, including the birth and rearing of their three children: Bobby, John, and Mary Ann.
Bob showed great competence, ingenuity, and confidence during his business career which spanned 19-1/2 years as plant manager for Park Manufacturing. He then became a laundromat owner and subsequently a Maytag salesman to regional laundromats. Upon their move to Sarasota, Florida, in the 1970's, Bob again tried his hand at entrepreneurship, owning "Astounding Sounds," a stereo store in Gulf Gate, and "The Answer," a women's resort-wear store on Siesta Key.
Upon retirement, Bob & Lois moved to Lake Placid, in south central Florida, where they remained for 27 years. Living on the water, they enjoyed all the benefits of the Florida lifestyle, including boating and plenty of travel. In 2015, Bob and Lois returned to Sarasota, finding it necessary to live in a memory care facility, so Lois could receive help caring for Bob's dementia.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, and beloved daughter-in-law, Cindy Fieberts. He is survived by his wife Lois Esson Fieberts, his son Robert E Fieberts, Jr and wife Theresa (Kesock), John Fieberts, both of Sarasota, FL and daughter Mary Ann Tucker and husband Donnie Tucker of Mississippi. He had four grandchildren, Andrew Fieberts, Jessica Thomas, Jennifer White, and Amanda Tucker, and three step-grandchildren Jason Fass, Aaron Bishop, and Carly Bishop. Bob had 4 great grandchildren and three step-great grands.
