Steve Weatherly Obituary

Weatherly, Steve
Nov. 11, 2011

Steve Weatherly of Sarasota, Fla. died at age 56 on Nov. 11, 2011 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 16, 2011 at the Sahib Temple, 600 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Weatherly and his beloved kitties Daphne and Doolittle. He is also survived by his brother, Brad Weatherly (Amy), nephews Will, Andrew and niece Allison of Ocala.
Steve was born in Columbus, Ga. and moved to Sarasota, Fla. in 1966.
Steve had a long and successful sales career in construction and aviation and most recently in the insurance industry.
Steve was a member of Sarasota Masonic Lodge No. 147. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Knight Commander of the Court of Honor (KCCH) from the Valley of Tampa. He was also an active member of the Sahib Shrine. He was very passionate about his Masonic brotherhood. Some of his richest friendships were established through these organizations. His passion for serving others was exemplified by his selfless service throughout many Masonic groups.
Steve loved being outdoors -fishing, golf and the gun range were some of his favorite interests. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the USF Bulls were his favorite teams but his friends know he just loved sports of all kinds.
Entertaining his friends with music, stories and watching sports at home was a big deal to Hoss. His home was always open and everybody was welcome. Steve loved his family and friends. He was a true professional in his work life but he was also charismatic, generous and if Steve was in the room there were no strangers. His sense of humor and quick wit drew everyone to him.
Steve was always the life of the party and he will be missed by his family and friends.
Although Steve's illness was difficult and painful for him and his family, he never complained or asked "why me?" He was always positive and looked at his illness as a wall that had to be climbed. He took it as a new challenge and faced it with courage and a strength that translated to those around him in a remarkable way. Every person he encountered came away with a new and better appreciation as to the person Steve was.
Memorial donations may be made in Steve's name to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.

I had the great pleasure of spending some time with Steve on the golf course and at his home for a Super Bowl party. If there is a nicer person left on this earth than Hoss, then we that are left behind are indeed blessed. RIP brother.

To Steves Family,
I lost my amazing mother Nancy Preston (Bradenton) June 26, 2011 to cancer. I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. I know first hand what your family has experienced and how much you are missing Steve. Mother and Steve are no longer in pain. They are going to be spending Thanksgiving with their family members already in heaven. There is an amazing grief support line on onlinegriefsupport.com that I found the day my mother passed. I am passing this wonderful website to you. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Sue Waxman (Nokomis)

Knowing Steve was knowing sunshine. He brought you into his circle with his big warm smile and easy going nature. No one was a stranger; he genuinely loved people and wanted them to feel welcome and comfortable. Becky, my memories of the time spent with the two of you are full of laughter and fun. I will think of you often as the days pass, sending you all the love and comfort I can and grateful that I had the blessing of knowing you both. You were great landlords. Steve will be greatly missed by so many. Melissa Freeman (Jackson, MI)

Steve, I know that you're in a better place and your challenging battle with cancer is done but you will always remain in my thoughts and prayers(Becky your included in that). You are one of my dad's best friends and a like an Uncle to me. I'm so blessed that you were a part of my life and that we were able to share many memories together. I will always remember the advice you gave me “Never settle of anything less than you deserve and live out your 20's with no one holding you back.” We love you “Big Hoss” <3 Love Kell

Steve, each time that i entered the plant doors, you always had a kind word to say to me even when I was so worn out from studies or clinicals. You expressed so much encouragement, that one day I would succeed and make a difference in someone's life. In my eyes, you made the difference to me. Thank you for being a such a good friend.
Becky & kitties, please accept my deepest and most sincerest sympathies. Steve was, no doubt, a true genuine gentleman.

Becky, Brad and Family,
Steve has been such a wonderful gift to this world and it's already different without him. I'm thankful for his friendship and for the wonderful woman with whom he choose to share life. That day is a wonderful memory.
He always made everyone feel so important, because to him, they always were. His smile was so big and it came straight from his big heart! I'll always remember and cherish my last visit with him, his big smile and an "air" kiss blown across the room...
My prayers are with you.

We will always remember Steve for his larger than life smile and sense of humor and love of life. We all have fond memories of Steve and in my case dating back to playing football with Steve and his support of the Interact Club.

I wish Becky the very best through this time.

I sincerely wish I could be there to celebrate his life with all.

It is amazing how the time flies by. It seems only yesterday that Steve & Brad were selling tile, (mostly Mexican tile back then)& joking & cutting up. Brad would do one of his famous imitations & Steve would chime in & soon everyone was just about on the floor laughing. Remember the good times with each other. Steve, you will be missed & our sympathies to all in your family. You are all in our prayers. Dick, Elissa & Ryan Patrick

A poem for Steve,
Don't stand by my grave and weep, For I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond's glint on the snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the soft blush of the morning light. I am the swift bird in flight. Don't stand by my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die. May God bless you and keep you for the good you did in this life. I send my deepest sympathy to Becky

The greatest tribute I can pay to Hoss is he was truely bigger than life and I personally can't stop thinking about him and the wonderful way he made me and everyone else feel while in his presence. He never left a man on the field, so to speak. If you happened to have the pleasure to be at Steve and Becky's home, Steve was always the last one to turn out the lights, never one to close down until you were done.

A wise man once said, "Man's greatest sin was to be boring", and that Steve was not. One always felt invigorated (including myself) when being with him, through joke, song, story or just the friendship of being together.

There are few people in my life that have ever touched my soul as "The Hoss", and for that special connection I am blessed. May god be with Becky, the family and all those who's lives Steve touched.

My friend, you were a great friend and companion..I will see you on the other side!

Hoss . . . we all miss you more than we can say. We admire and respect you even more than we miss you. You were a big guy with an even bigger heat . . . and you've left an enormous void for those of us back here on God's Earth. We were all so blessed and fortunate to have had the honor of your friendship, loyalty, and companionship. Your absence we're really finding hard to accept . . . we keep turning around expecting to see you there. We'll have to accept that you really are there . . . it's just that we can't see you.

You were one tough hombre Hoss. You had and earned everyone's attention and respect. And you were ong big teddy bear. You were generous to a fault. And it's of no surprise to anyone that you gave oh so much more than you got. You would want us to remember you and what you stood for. We'll honor your memory . . . trying to be more like you. We'll remember you often . . . and we'll often remind one another of the great things you did and the great times we were privileged to share with you. God Bless you Hoss. We trust you are in that Great Place and now in the company of those that have gone there before us – our loss is their gain. Thank you so VERY much for all that you did – for all of us. You will be terribly missed my friend. Love ya brother . . .
