Bruce Ungar Obituary

Ungar, Captain Bruce A., of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away on November 15, 2018 after one hell of a fight against an aggressive cancer called Mantle Cell Lymphoma. He was born in Wayne, MI on February 2, 1952, to Frank Ungar and Annabelle (Coogan) Ungar. Bruce was a man of many crafts and trades. He was a respected charter boat captain, taught baseball to children in Saudi Arabia, took over Grandma Ungar’s catering business, and was a skilled carpenter and painter. He was always willing to help out those in need with projects. Bruce was an avid fisherman and worked with University of Miami Microbiology Department tagging tarpon. In the off season, Bruce enjoyed hunting throughout the US and Canada. He liked to travel out West for downhill skiing and the Breckenridge St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl. Although he lived in Florida for over 20 years, he remained a loyal University of Michigan Football fan (Go Blue!). He always had a love for Rock ‘n Roll shows, The Dollar Store, and motorcycles. Bruce was known as the life of the party and had an amazing ability to meet anybody once and become a friend for life.... “You know what I mean?” Bruce is survived by his life companion and best friend Laurie Decker and her children Scott (Kara) Decker and Adam (Tina) Decker; his father Frank (Dee) Ungar; his five siblings Sue (Gary) Haskin, Sandy Ungar (Jack Donahey), Jenny (David) Hoff, Brent Ungar (Kerry Gregoire), and Keith Ungar (Caroline Boardman); two granddaughters Skylar and Bristol; three nephews; eight nieces; two great nephews; three great nieces; aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as countless good friends around the world including Rod (Judy) Thrythall, George (Judy) Santry, Dick (Renee) Scherman, and Bobby (Elaine) Raines. He was preceded in death by his mother Annabelle (Coogan) Ungar; grandparents Anton and Rose Ungar and Joseph and Irene Coogan. His family plans to celebrate Bruce’s life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bruce’s honor to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society or enjoy a day out on the water in his memory. Now he fishes and hunts upon the stars.
