David O'Neill Obituary

O’Neill, David Wymer; died peacefully after a long illness on Friday, September 12, 2014; at St. John Providence Hospital, in Detroit, MI. David was born April 21, 1937, to Stanley Paul and Catherine Marion (Vinsik) O’Neill, in Dearborn, MI, and at the time of his death he was a resident at Henry Ford Village, Dearborn, MI, only a half mile from his residence at birth. David graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and was a proud member of the Mu Kappa Mu fraternity. He remained active his entire life in the fraternity alumni, serving as Treasurer until he became ill. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1975. David proudly served in the United States Air Force following his graduation from MI Tech, working as a meteorologist. Following his service to his country, he made his career with the General Electric Corporation from 1962 until his retirement in 1997. He was a lifelong member of the Michigan and National Societies of Professional Engineers, serving in multiple capacities, including President and Treasurer. Following his retirement, David moved to Port Huron, MI, where he joined the Marysville Lions Club and served as their Treasurer for many years. He also cherished being a member of the Polish Boat Club and the Men’s Breakfast Fellowship within his church, the First Presbyterian Church of Port Huron. He was a world traveler, a passionate genealogist, avid boater and golfer, and had a tremendous love of Irish music. He is survived by his life partner, Nadine Lovell (of Grosse Pointe, MI); his sons, Brian (of McPherson, KS) and Mark (Michele of Toledo, OH); grandsons, Aaron (Toledo, OH) and Ajay (Janelle of Redmond, OR); his daughter, Kristie (Jim Mitchell of Southfield, MI); his son, Craig (Tanya of Henderson, NV); grandson, Aiden Griffin; step-son, Commodore Josh Reyher (Kim of New Orleans, LA); granddaughters, Elinor, Molly, and Tabitha; step-daughter, Dr. Jennifer (Dr. Andrew Drescher of St. Louis, MO); grandchildren, Anna, Ian, and James. Memorials may be made to his fraternity’s fund (“Gamma Alpha Plan”) or to the Marysville Lions Club, and can be mailed in care of Kristie O’Neill Mitchell, 28115 Fairfax St., Southfield, MI 48076. The family is planning a tribute to celebrate his life, to be scheduled close to St. Patrick’s Day, 2015.
