Jason Lapinski Obituary

Jason L. Lapinski, a Dearborn native and longtime resident of Dearborn Heights, died unexpectedly on Sept. 19, 2023. He was 60 years old. Born on March 23, 1963, Jason was the seventh son of Joseph F. and Virginia C. Lapinski of Dearborn. Jason graduated with honors from Edsel Ford High School in June 1981, earning awards for his art and woodworking skills. After high school Jason used his skills to design and build projects for the South Lyon Herald newspaper, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Pontiac Yacht Club. In his 40-plus-year career Jason worked for several firms including Duncan Aviation, Boeing and, recently, Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, designing wiring products for the automotive industry. For much of his life Jason dealt with chronic disease, yet he met this challenge with perseverance and humor. All who knew Jason were familiar with his wit and generosity. Jason was a gifted and skilled woodworker who gladly shared that gift, giving new life to a piece of discarded furniture or donating his time and skills to those in need. Jason's generosity also had a humane side with his deep affection for dogs. He was a dog lover who often adopted the dog no one else wanted. He gave his home and his heart to his canine companions. Jason was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Virginia, and a brother, Ronald. His ashes will be interred with those family members at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn. Jason is survived by five brothers - Joseph A. Lapinski of Springfield (MI), Kenneth (Patricia) Lapinski of Armada (MI), Jerrold (Nancy) Lapinski of Cadillac (MI), Jeffrey (Beverly Bonning) Lapinski of East Lansing and James Lapinski of Dearborn - as well as many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. A celebration of life luncheon will be held in Dearborn on January 7. Memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.

Dear Jeff and all the Lapinski family, We are sorry that we can't be with you tomorrow for Jason's memorial. We have many fond memories of living next door as we moved in when Jason was about 11 years old. Your parents and all of you were the best neighbors ever! We have two favorite memories of Jason. One of Halloween the year that he built a black coffin, dressed up in a Dracula-like costume and terrified the kids when he'd lift the lid and sit up when they came for candy. Ha-he did an awesome job on that project! Our other memory was at one of your family weddings. The band started to play "Walk Like an Egyptian" and Jason nailed it through the entire dance!
He was just a really nice guy and so interesting, and we are so saddened to learn of his death. Please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers. RIP Jason-you deserve it, but you are gone too soon.
