Carl Welch Obituary

Carl Welch

March 25, 1940 - July 3, 2022

Carl Watson Welch, 82, of Conover, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

He was born March 25, 1940, in Cleveland County, to the late Dewey and Betty Leggins Welch.

Carl was an active member for 22 years of Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, Concordia Lutheran Church LLL and Board Mission Ministry. Carl started his career in textiles at Carolina Mills before joining the home furnishings industry, serving as vice president of manufacturing at Pem-Kay Furniture. Later in his career, he founded Statesman Furniture, where he enjoyed working with his son, David Welch, for many years. Today, Statesman Furniture is being operated by his grandson, Caleb Welch. Carl loved bird watching and seeing his hummingbirds return each year. He enjoyed texting regularly with all his grandchildren and one of his greatest blessings was getting to see, hold, and spend time with his first great-grandchild, Millie. Above all else, he dearly loved his wife, Pat, who he affectionately called "Trish." Most of all, he loved his Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Richard Welch and David Welch; brothers, Don Welch, Melvin Welch, and Ray Welch; and sister, Darlene LaCount.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Pat Moose Welch of the home; son, Dwayne Welch and wife, Amanda DeHart Welch, of Conover; daughter-in-law, Connie Fox Welch of Conover; brother, Mike Welch of Hickory; sister, Jo Anne Bowman of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Caleb Welch (Briana), Robert Welch, Lexie Echerd (John), Anderson Welch, Addie Jo Welch, and Grayson Welch; and great-grandchild, Millie Echerd.

A service to celebrate Carl's life will be held Friday, July 8, at 12 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover. The Rev. Michael Geml will officiate. A private burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, prior to the service. Those serving as pallbearers are Anderson Welch, Grayson Welch, John Echerd, Reece Beck, Steve Brewer, and Derwin Greeson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 216 5th Ave. SE, Conover, NC 28613.
