Carolyn Shook Obituary

HICKORY - Carolyn Costner Shook, 70, of Hickory, passed away Nov. 25, 2006. She was born July 6, 1936, in Caldwell County, to the late Samuel D. and Margaret Frye Costner. She was a member at the Church of the Master. Carolyn worked as a customer service representative at J.C. Penney & Co. She was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel D. Costner, Jr.; and two sisters, Patsy Pennell and Mary Ann Harrold. Survivors include two sons and daughther-in-law, Jeff Shook and wife, Tammy, of Vale, and Joe C. Shook of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Shook of Vale; a grandson, Terry Shook of Vale; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gay Lail and husband, Jack, of Hickory and Faye Bolick and husband, Hugh, of Hickory; a brother, Thomas Costner of Hickory; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Church of the Master, with the Rev. Curtis Tuthrow officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. Pallbearers will be Brian Hefner, Terry Shook, Mark Mitchell, Hugh Bolick, David Bolick, and Don Webster. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Master United Church of Christ, 2230 29th Ave. Dr., NE, Hickory, N.C. 28601 or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, Tx. 75244. Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Carolyn Costner Shook family.
