D. Cecil Obituary

CONOVER - D. Stanton Cecil III, 48, of Conover, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at his residence. He was born June 20, 1961, in Buncombe County, the son of the late David Stanton Cecil Jr. and Margaret Martin Cecil. Mr. Cecil was the owner of Stanton's Landscaping Service and had worked part time at Rock Barn Golf Club. He was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was president of the Brotherhood, a member of the consistory, and choir member. He enjoyed spending time with his sons and many friends playing golf, hunting, fishing, water skiing and playing cards. Survivors include twin sons, Jonathan Greer Cecil and Thomas Preston Cecil of Catawba; his girlfriend, Kathy Winters; a sister, Aprylle Cecil of Hickory; and a half sister, Debbie Nicholson of Hickory. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Revs. Lonny McSherley and Peggy Stout officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 217 Second Ave., NE, Conover, N.C. 28613. Condolences may be sent to the Cecil family at www.drumfuneralhome.com. The Cecil family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Conover.
