David Sain Obituary

David Craig Sain

August 16, 1935 - April 29, 2022

Praise be to God! A fiercely devoted Christian man, David Craig Sain, has "run the Good Race, fought the Good Fight, and finished well," at age 86! His home was on Will Schronce Rd., in Lincolnton, and he met his only Savior Friday, April 29, 2022.

Mr. Sain was born Aug. 16, 1935, a son of the late Jacob "Jake" Craig Sain and Jessie Powell Sain. He was married for 64 years, a loving husband to his wife, Ester Ardenia Hovis Sain, who describes him as "a godly man."

Also grateful for his faith are Mr. and Mrs. Sain's daughters, Janet Shepard of Lincolnton, Rebecca Moss (Rick) of Bessemer City, Meleah Heavner (Christopher "Chris") of Iron Station, Connie Drum (Bryan) of Lincolnton; grandsons, Justin Wallace, Seth Wallace, and Noah Moss; granddaughters, Rachel Auwater, Macie Drum, and Mallory Drum; great-grandchildren, Luke Auwater and Eva Auwater; brother, Gene Sain (Judy); nieces, Anita, Linda, and Barbara; and nephew, Steven "Steve" Hoyle.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sain was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Hoyle, her husband, Ervin, and their son, Kevin.

A barber for 42 years, Mr. Sain retired from the business he co-owned, David and Charlie's Barber Shop, in Boger City. He felt humbled by his success and was honored to give free haircuts to retirees and the disabled, in their homes. In 1999, The Lincoln Times published an article detailing his notable retirement.

Mr. Sain had a life-long penchant for traditional Country and Bluegrass music. A self-taught guitarist, he was thrilled to be included in local jam sessions, for decades, among old and new friends. He enjoyed guitar refurbishment, admiring the work of Wayne Henderson and at 72, taught himself to play a doghouse bass.

The Sain family will cherish the memory of Mr. Sain's many fine qualities. In particular, he had a fascinating wit, and his childlike excitement over snow was contagious. Mr. Sain loved to garden and showed unfettered joy in sharing the harvest with family, friends, and acquaintances. As an outdoorsman, he cherished nature and animals. The Sain family hopes to apply Mr. Sain's lessons of practical knowledge but, mainly, endeavor to follow his example of authentic Christianity. They ask for prayer as they mourn their profound loss but, ultimately, celebrate Mr. Sain's life as ironclad testimony of God's love, shouting, "Hallelujah! What a victory!"

On Wednesday, May 4, the family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., at Warlick Funeral Home. A celebration of life service in memory of Mr. Sain will be follow in Warlick Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Ken Faulkenbury officiating. The burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to the church Mr. Sain regularly attended from his youth, Iron Station United Methodist Church, 5734 East Hwy 27, Iron Station, NC, 28080.
