Billy Woodrow Moss

December 11, 1944 – March 14, 2026

Billy Woodrow Moss, born December 11, 1944, in Cleveland County North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, at the age of 81. Known to most simply as Bill, he was a man defined by perseverance, grit, and a servant’s heart. He lived with quiet bravery, unwavering dedication, and an honest pride in doing things the right way. He approached his commitment to family with the same passion and resolve, and he will always be remembered as a devoted husband and a loving father.

Bill proudly served on active duty in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 during the Vietnam War era. He was stationed at Camp Casey, Korea, and later completed his final months of service at Fort Knox, Kentucky, achieving the rank of Specialist Five (SP5), E

Bill spent the bulk of his professional life working in commercial construction - never above rolling up his sleeves and never satisfied with anything less than a job well done. His work took him to projects across the country, where he earned respect for his skill, diligence, and steady commitment to excellence.

Outside of work, Bill enjoyed the open road as an avid motorcycle enthusiast and valued the camaraderie of the friends he rode with. He also loved American Legion Baseball and was a lifelong dog lover. One of his most memorable joys was taking his beloved Basset Hound, Jessie, on motorcycle rides to baseball games—simple moments that captured his spirit and  made him truly one of a kind.

Bill’s life was deeply shaped by the love he shared with his wife, Remine Moss, to whom he was married for 48 years. Remine preceded him in death in 2020. She was a devoted wife and mother, worked faithfully for many years, and was actively involved in the American Legion Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi, building lifelong friendships through her service and community. Their marriage was rooted in loyalty, hard work, and family—values that remained central to Bill for the rest of his life.

Bill was a proud member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), reflecting his enduring respect for service and community. He  was also preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow W. Moss and Pauline Moss (Chapman), and his sister, Joanne Wylie. He is survived by his son, Kevin Moss, and wife Melissa; sisters Betty Fite (Ronnie) and Wanda Hurley (Bill); brothers Douglas Moss (Margie) and Glen Moss (Diane); grandson Derek Hiler (Tatum); great granddaughters Emma and Elle Hiler; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A viewing will be held at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby, NC, on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, NC.
