Dwight Frye Obituary

Dwight Carroll Frye

October 15, 1942 - May 1, 2025

Dwight Carroll Frye, Sr., 82, of Hickory passed away on May 1, 2025, at his home after a brief illness.

Born October 15, 1942, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Carl Frye and Iona Pitts Frye. In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by two brothers, Stewart and Jerry Frye and his sister, Linda Frye.

Dwight was interested in construction at an early age as was his family's tradition. He worked his entire career at Hickory Construction and Looper Construction until his retirement. His hobbies included lots of golf games, deep sea fishing, and cooking big, delicious meals for his whole family. Yearly family beach trips and extensive traveling with friends were very important to him.

A baseball player himself, Dwight enjoyed watching all sports events on television. He was independent, hardworking, extremely generous, often stubborn, caring, strong-willed, and happiest when with his family, especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Emily Martin Frye, of the home; son, D.C. Frye, of Hickory; daughter, Deborah Frye Moore (Mike), of Hickory; grandchildren, Meghan Nelson (Jordan), of Clayton, NC, Katie Holloway (Sam), of Norfolk, VA, Matt Frye (Carey) of Columbia, SC, Ashley Walker (Nathan), of Hickory, Dakota Moore of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Gavin Walker, Molly Nelson, Wells Holloway, Delilah Frye, and Tyler Horton; and sister, Judy Frye Bruner (Denny).

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Monica Childers officiating.

Memorials may be made to Westview United Methodist Church.
