Emily Lane Obituary

Emily Liles Lane

September 17, 1945 - March 24, 2025

Emily Liles Lane, 79, of Hickory, N.C., passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Born on September 17, 1945, in Asheboro, NC, Emily was the daughter of the late Velna Williams and Jesse Tilden Liles and was deeply loved by her stepfather, Eugene Hersey.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Edgar W. Lane III, whom she met at Myrtle Beach when they were just 16 years old. It was truly love at first sight. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, raising two children, Stephanie L. Glasgow and Garrick W. Lane. She was also a cherished Mimi to 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Emily's heart knew no bounds when it came to animals. She opened her home to foster and rescue countless dogs and cats, spending many hours volunteering at the Catawba County Animal Shelter. Her efforts were instrumental in making it a no-kill shelter, a cause she was deeply passionate about.

Though she wasn't naturally drawn to traveling, Emily often accompanied Eddie on his photography trips - not for the adventure, but to be by his side. She found comfort in ensuring he made it home safely. She grew to love Maine, a place that became an unexpected favorite.

A private family service will be held at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Catawba County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2472, Hickory, NC 28603.
