Francis "Frank" Cogger CONOVER Francis "Frank" Howard Cogger, 91, of Conover, passed away Sunday, June 24 2012, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. Born Sept. 27, 1920 in Essex County, Mass., he was the son of the late Frank James and Mary Ellen Howard Cogger. Frank was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of American Legion Post #48 in Hickory and a lifetime member of the VFW. Frank was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Secular Order of Franciscans. He retired as a manager from Western Union and was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Frank loved his Lord, was a friend to many, and never held a grudge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grand-daughter, Megan Wine-barger and a son-in-law, J. C. Winebarger. Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Winebarger, of Conover, Malla Zoe Killian and husband, Michael, of Conover; sons, Douglas Cogger and wife, Margaret, of Salem, Mass., Thomas Cogger and wife, Sherry, of New Bern; grandchildren, Shawn Winebarger, Robin Cogger, Kevin Killian, Jay Cogger, Justin Wine-barger, Travis Killian, and Jarrett Killian; great-grandchildren, Jessica Winebarger, Kalissa Killian, Preston Killian, and Jaylen Winebarger. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 27, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton. Following the receiving, a Franciscan Wake Service will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. by Father James Collins, Celebrant, assisted by Scott Gilfillan, Deacon. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #48.
