Glenn P. Sims

NEWTON - Glenn "Jeep" Piercie Sims, 79, of Northwest Boulevard, Newton, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Charles George Veterans Administration Medical Center in Asheville. Born March 11, 1930, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Dewey R. Sims and Hazel Thornburg Sims Vlaservich. Mr. Sims was a veteran serving in the Korean War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 5305 in Newton and American Legion Post 16 Newton. He was a member of Old St Paul's Lutheran Church in Newton. In addition to his parents, a sister, Sara Ann Lail, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bolick Sims of the home; three sons, Eric Sims and wife, Carla, of Claremont, Jody Sims and wife, Beth, of Conover and Kelly Sims and wife, Amy, of Mountain View; one daughter, Chris Boyd of Supply; three grandsons, Eric Eason, Ethan Sims and Bailey Sims; and one granddaughter, Danielle Wicker. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Burke Mortuary chapel in Maiden, with the Rev. Paul Christ officiating.
