Harry Alexander Obituary

CLAREMONT - Harry Adrian Alexander, 66, of Claremont, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born May 10, 1943, in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Ballard and Janie Fogleman Alexander. Harry was a devoted family man who adored his children and grandchildren. He was a "Happy-Go-Lucky" kind of man. He never had a harsh word to say about anyone and always offered encouragement to everyone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Linda McCracken and Clois McCracken; and brothers, Jim Alexander, Monroe Alexander and Maynard Alexander. He is survived by his children, Julie Hess and Eric Alexander and fiancée Susan Cansler, of Claremont, Kevin Alexander of Hickory and April Shook and husband, Kirk, of Granite Falls; brothers, John Alexander of Bristol, Va., Wayne Alexander of Shady Valley, Tenn., and Dale Alexander of Hidden Valley, Va.; sisters, Betty Buttrey and and Sue Alexander of Bristol, Va., and Mary Ellen Cassidy of Bristol, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a beloved pet, Peanut; and special friends, Patty Alexander McManus, Brenda Pettigrew and Junior "Snake" Houser. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Catawba Funerals & Cremations, with the Revs. Mike Alexander and Jim Hamby officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery in Catawba. Pallbearers will be John Abernathy, Al Leatherman, Billy Wallace, Jonathan Alexander, Gene Harvill and Greg Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior "Snake" Houser, Gary Pettigrew and Jimmy Hess. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.catawbamemorialpark.com.
