Jerry Thomas Dees, 82, of Claremont passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 5, 2023 at his residence.
He was born November 12, 1940 in Cumberland County to the late Walt and Naomi Hardee Dees. Jerry was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden, American Legion Post 48 in Hickory, and the Masonic Lodge.
He served as Private First Class in the United States Marine Corp for four years and as Sergeant in the United States Army for 17 ½ years, during that time he served one and a half years in Vietnam. Jerry enjoyed riding on his John Deere, piddlin' in his building and yard, and spending quality time with his family which he loved very much.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Anderson; daughter-in-law, Ila Dees; brothers, John Dees, Colon Dees, and Walter Dees; sister, Myrtle Hodges.
Those left to cherish his memory are; his wife of 36 years: Teresa Ferrell Dees of the home; sons: Tim Dees of Claremont, Derick Estes and wife Krissy of Claremont; daughter: Andrea Robinson of Huntersville; brother: Wilber Dees of Fayetteville; grandchildren: Timmy Dees, Tommy Dees, Seth Dees, Kayla Gilliland, Noah Estes, Kaitlyn Britton, Gracie Estes, Mia Robinson, and Colt Estes; great-grandchildren: Timothy Dees, Chance Gilliland; his beloved furry K-9 friend Roxy; special friends: Mike and Cindy Paxton, and Edward and Cheryl Hervey.
The family would like to thank Carolina Caring for the love and care they gave to Jerry, especially Anita, Chelsea, and Chantae.
A service with military honors to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Wednesday, May, 10, 2023 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Mr. Derick Estes and Dr. Christian Pruitt will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.

As my brother in law I have so many fond memories of Jerry, from much laughter to beach trips to eating out on Sundays and attending church together and so many other happy memories. He was a good Christian man who is now in the arms of Jesus. Love you Jerry and I´ll see you again one day in heaven.
