Josephine Hambrick

October 11, 1932 - July 26, 2025

Josephine Bonniwell Hambrick passed away on July 26, 2025, at Trinity Ridge. She was the daughter of Dr. Robert Theodore Hambrick Sr. and Josephine Lyerly Hambrick.

Josephine or "JoJo" as she was affectionately called, was born on October 11, 1932. She graduated from Hickory High School and was a member of the yearbook staff, the Key Club, and won a senior superlative. She attended Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, and after graduating, she worked in Atlanta, Georgia, before moving to New York City in 1964. While living in New York City, she worked for Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute. She moved to London in the mid-1970s, where she helped establish the London branch of Sloan Kettering. After obtaining a master's degree in telecommunication from SMU in 1982, she returned to New York City and worked for ABC Broadcasting and JP Morgan. She loved playing bridge and was a member of a poetry and book club. She established many lifelong friendships while living in New York. Josephine returned to Hickory in 1997 to care for her mother. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and was a third-generation board member of the Hickory Museum of Art.

Josephine is survived by her nephew, Robert Theodore Hambrick, III (Laura) of Cartersville, Virginia; her niece Margaret Hambrick Glaze (Gene); great-nieces and nephews Jackson Seitz Hambrick, Gaither Lee Hambrick, and Catherine Wallace Glaze, all of Hickory, NC; Mac Lyerly Glaze and Wilson Robert Glaze, both of Boone, North Carolina. She is also survived by cousins William King (Gloria) of Seattle, Washington, and Anne Boyer (Hugh) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is also survived by a special niece, Janet Seitz Hambrick. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Theodore Hambrick Jr., and sister-in-law, Suzanne Hafer Hambrick.

Her service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 2 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory, where Josephine was a third-generation lifetime member, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Donations and memorials for Josephine Hambrick can be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of First Presbyterian Church 237 2nd St. NW Hickory, NC 28601 or the Hickory Museum of Art 243 3rd Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and medical staff who have helped with Josephine's care throughout the years.
