Julius "Doc" Griggs Evans

December 10, 1949 - June 11, 2024

Julius "Doc" Griggs Evans, 74, of Hickory, passed away June 11, 2024 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born December 10, 1949 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late James Evans and Sarah Griggs Evans.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dave Evans, James Evans; and granddaughter, India Rice.

Doc loved to fish and was an excellent woodworker and pool player, often winning in tournament play.

He served in the Vietnam War and was decorated for his bravery.

To know Doc was to love him. He was a kind, humble man who always tried to help others. He adored his family and was a wonderful role model for not only his sons and grandchildren, but also for all who knew him.

He retired from Century Furniture after 35 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Donnie Evans (Lanora) of Hickory, Raymond Houser of Statesville; brother, Bobby Evans (Julie) of Lincolnton; sisters, Lizzie Evans, Betty E. Tinsley (Albert), Mary E. Bines, all of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Kyllaila Evans (Quinton) of Charlotte, Xzaiver Smith of Hickory, Raheem Littlejohn of Hickory, Carrie Pearson of Charlotte, Terrance Watkins of Charlotte, Miles Evans of Los Angeles, Ca, Marcus Houser of Kentucky, Aaron Sigmon of Claremont; lifelong friend, Betty Houser of Conover; and 9 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held with military honors at 2 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2024 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service.

Memorials may be sent in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn 38105 or the National Kidney Foundation, PO Box 7413, Raleigh, NC 27615.

I worked with Julius at century furniture in the early 80s, He was always a very polite person and had a lot of patience for training people, I know I was a Handful but He didn't ever get aggravated or be harsh, He was so nice and easy to work with!
