Kim Vines Obituary

Kim Malpass Vines STATESVILLE Kim Malpass Vines, 44, went to the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus, Wednesday, July 17, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. Kim was an incredible woman. Her nickname, in her family, was Marshmallow, because she was so soft hearted and so sweet, but could and did bounce back from life's trials. Her trials are over, and she is receiving her reward for her incredible life of love and compassion. To her friends she was an unceasing source of strength and love, and to her family she was pure joy. Kim was a super mom, a super friend and a super daughter. She is a devoted and loving Mom to Emily Jane Vines and Rebecca Claire Vines; beloved daughter of Jane and Lee Malpass; loving sister of John (Shea), Mark (Tonia), Barbara, and Nick (Sharon). She was predeceased by her sister Mary (Jason). She is the beloved niece of Marilyn (Tom) Moldovan and Cathy (John) LiVecchi-Mikucki. She leaves behind bereaved nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless grieving friends, all who love her dearly and share wonderful memories of this angel on earth. Whether you knew Kim at Vance, Alexander, Iredell or Catawba County Departments of Social Services or Appalachian State University, at Forest Park Presbyterian Church or just in her extended community of the circle of love she created, you knew what a remarkable woman she was. Everyone who knew her, knew of her indomitable spirit and determination, knew that she circled her friends with a blanket of compassion as they did her, and knew of her strong work ethic. If you were her friend you know that she would tackle any task that you needed, from baking a cake, to providing a shoulder to cry on, to planning your wedding. Her church participation and charitable work and involvement in Chiari and other organizations was life-changing for people she had never even met. Kim will be remembered and so very missed, by thousands whose lives she touched, in her many roles. Aside from being an angel who loved angels, she was also famous for her many talents and abilities - she was a gifted social worker, a kind and thoughtful supervisor, a talented baker who created the most beautiful and clever cakes, a visionary who could construct a scrap book or put together a party or participate in a special church service. Joy was created by Kim, joy followed Kim and now she is joy in heaven. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 27, at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, in Statesville. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and the service will begin at 2 p.m. A reception will be held, in the fellowship hall, after the service. Flowers sent to the church will be warmly received and donations may be made to the church for a college fund for Emily and Rebecca Vines at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1222, 1026 Davie Ave., Statesville, NC 28677. Please indicate donations are for the Vines Scholarship Fund. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.

You are all in my prayers today. I graduated with Kim from Eastern, and thought a lot of her. She always had a big smile, nothing ever got her down. I pray for God's comfort and strength for her family

I had the pleasure of knowing Kim for the past 5 years. She was one of the most authentic persons that I've ever known. She brought energy into any room which she entered-a shining light. She was a great social worker and an even better person. She will be missed by so many, but the example that she set will live forevermore in our hearts and minds.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal......Kim's children, family, and friends are in my prayers. (Catawba County DSS)

To Emily, Becca and the rest of Kim's family: I am deeply sorry for your loss and I have always thought that Kim was an amazing person with a huge heart. I am not sure I've ever been in her presence when she wasn't smiling! She could just light up a room! May you have some peace during this diffcult time.

Kim was such a great friend one that I could call genuine. I think it's so hard to comprehend that Kim is no longer here with us. I know heaven is happy to have such a beautiful person. Kim you will be greatly missed and I trust God took you because you were ready. Maybe God knew He was not going to allow you to suffer longterm so he took you home. I will miss you my friend, but I have no doubt I will see you again and we will pick up right where we left off! Love and miss you!
